All Jason's basses are custom built by Sadowsky Guitars and unfortunately unlike most basses, Sadowsky's are only built and sold in the Sadowsky Guitars Brooklyn, New York Based guitar shop. Sadowsky guitar sells a wide range of different basses which you can view from there website (Price Lists are also available) www.sadowsky.com ;D

Also, you can call up the sadowsky shop and talk to them about what options you want on your bass and then they will make it and send it to you, wherever you are. But yeah, they are not sold in any other retail shops. They come up on ebay fairly often too.
If you buy a bass from Sadowsky directly though, you'll have to wait a while (somewhere around 9 months or something) for it to be built.

Yeah true they really do take there time to make the best bass/guitar possable and they're some of the most stable instruments you're likely to find. One reason is that the wood for Sadowsky instruments will sit and cure for up to a year or more before undergoing final production worth the wait IMO.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel.
If you buy a new one directly from them it will cost around $2,800 on up depending on different options (such as flamed tops or exotic woods)
You can get them on ebay for around $2,000
Also worth looking into are "Mike Lull" basses (http://www.mikelull.com) They are basically the same as Sadowskys but are built by Mike Lull in Washington state (a couple miles from my house in fact). They are about the same price range but on ebay they go for a bit less ($1,100 to $1,500)
Just as good as a Sadowsky in every way (IMO)

Mike Lull maybe, but there's only one kinda bass for me - Sadowsky! (man that sounds like an ad!)
The whole flexibility in the building/selection process is the main point of interest for me. You're not restriced to what someone decides is the cheapest or easiest to build with - you decide what you want and Roger and the team work with that!
Just out of interest, if you could have any Sadowsky at all, what kind would you have? I'd probably have to go for a direct copy of Jason's Sadowsky5 string Cherry Burst - you can see it in the vid for 'The Memory Remains'.

if you could have any Sadowsky at all, what kind would you have? Well if i could pick any of his bass out of the collection i would have to pick an Alembic or a Spector but from the Sadowskys i would have the Black Sadowsky Vintage Jazz #1 or the Lake Placid Blue Sadowsky Vintage Jazz #2. I cant pick just one because most of them are pretty amazing but those to really stand out from the rest and are my personnal fav's from his collection

I played a couple G&L basses at Bass Northwest (www.bassnw.com) the other day and was really impressed by their sound and playability for the price, around $500-700

Just so you guys know, you can't display pictures from my site here because freewebs does not allow "hotlinking" (I think it's called that) so even though you may see the pictures (because they're in you computers cache memory for a short time) anyone else cannot generally see them. The best thing to do would be to just give the link to the picture and then we can copy/paste it and see the pic.
Sorry.

Yeah I currently own two four string G&L basses, one is an SB-2 and is Lake Placid Blue with a white pearloid pickguard. The other is an SB-1 and is Black with a black pickguard, both have maple necks and do not have matching headstock. They play like a dream you'd have where everything was really cool the whole time I want to keep those and get one or two Sadowsky five strings, they are the only five string bass that is set up the way I like them!

Awesome Gerard.
I'm becoming a big fan of G&L stuff. How much did you pay for your two? I can't wait to see pics.
I'll put up some pics of my gear on my website sometime. Today maybe.
